Close of entries - what happens next
Entries for the 2024 race closed at noon on Saturday 9 November, with 260 accepted entries and a further 22 completed entries held in a queue. Click here to see the spreadsheet of entries by category.
Crews with 3 or more entries will race for a medal.
If adjacent categories each have only 1 or 2 entries, they will be combined to make a handicap event for which a medal will be awarded.
A number of events had only 1 or 2 entries and no adjacent small category (1 or 2 entries) with which they could be combined to make a handicap event. As they would thefore not be racing for a medal, the submitting adminstrators of those crews have been e-mailed to ask if the crew wishes to race in the category entered, to commute to another category if available or to withdraw for a full refund. Offers to move category are made 'blind' - the crews are told only that they would have opposition in an event and so a chance of a medal, NOT who the opposition are.
These crews have been asked to respond with a decision by 5 p.m. on Monday 11 November. If any choose to withdraw, places in the start order will be allocated to completed entries in order of completion.
The start order will then be finalised and posted on the race website by 3 p.m. on Thursday 14 November, along with the safety and marshalling instructions for this year's race.
BROE will re-open for substitutions once the start order has been published. As entries have now closed, crews are baselined and the 50% substitution rule is in force. Please also note rule 7-2-4e: all masters categories shall race at their age category as shown in the draw.
